Apple iPhone 6 “Bendgate” fuels BlackBerry Passport campaign BlackBerry hopes its new smartphone will stage a comeback, and it’s using the new iPhone 6 Bendgate issue as aid.

BlackBerry has been on the decline for a few years now, with many people thinking of BlackBerry as a company that is no longer relevant in the current smartphone era.

And yet, BlackBerry’s still making smartphones. And the company still believes in its comeback. How much does it believe in a possible return to greatness? So much so that BlackBerry CEO John Chen now has a new slogan: “I challenge you to bend the Passport.” In case you didn’t know, Chen is talking about the new BlackBerry Passport, and he’s mocking Apple’s iPhone 6 with this latest campaign.

The BlackBerry Passport looks to have a 4.5-inch Gorilla Glass display with a screen resolution of 1440 x 1440 (453ppi), a brighter resolution than that of the iPhone 5S and the Galaxy S5. The Passport features a physical QWERTY keyboard, a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory storage with a microSD card slot for expandable memory storage up to an additional 64GB, as well as a 3,450mAh battery that will provide around 30 hours of usage.

The device will run BlackBerry 10.3 OS. The BlackBerry Passport will sell for around 529 euros in the UK and $599 USD when it goes on sale.
Chen’s new “bend challenge” for the BlackBerry Passport comes on the heels of the iPhone 6 Bendgate scandal that’s now placed the iPhone 6, particularly Apple’s iPhablet, the 6 Plus, in a negative light.

Two individuals took to social media to post their “bent” iPhone 6 Plus models, with one screen cracking after the individual attempted to fix the bend in his display. The Note 3, Samsung’s smartphone from last year, managed to surpass the iPhone 6 Plus in the bend test – showing that, while it may hurt iPhone fans, premium plastic is still fantastic.
