Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) has now started tailoring the ads on the basis the user’s Internet activity, the social networking giant wants the people to be targeted with ads they are interested in. However, the company also gave an option to opt out from it and continue with the previous ad policy of being targeted with the ads based on pages likes and post shared. Facebook said, “When we ask people about our ads, one of the top things they tell us is that they want to see ads that are more relevant to their interests. Today, we learn about your interests primarily from the things you do on Facebook, such as Pages you like. Starting soon in the US, we will also include information from some of the websites and apps you use. This is a type of interest-based advertising, and many companies already do this.” Along with the likes and shares on the Facebook, the social networking giant will now also monitor the websites you visit through your browser and or the apps you use on your smartphone or computer. Facebook will tailor the quality ads for its user, they said, “When we ask people about our ads, one of the top things they tell us is that they want to see ads that are more relevant to their interests. Today, we learn about your interests primarily from the things you do on Facebook, such as Pages you like. Starting soon in the US, we will also include information from some of the websites and apps you use. This is a type of interest-based advertising, and many companies already do this.” However, Facebook will also be able to track all its users, the company would be able to know what they are doing and searching about, which in turn can also be considered as a threat to privacy.
