Google is expected to launch a new service called Google Fit for Android powered devices at Google I/O with the target to compete with Apple’s HealthKit services. Google Fit is probably a new service especially tailored to put the data tracked by sensors all in one place.

The same type of feature was launched by the Apple Inc. at its annual event — WWDC. However, Apple is not the first to introduce it, Google in the year 2008 introduced a health service for the hospitals, which later was shut down in the year 2011.

Forbes said, “Google Fit will aggregate data through open APIs, instruction sets that allow apps to share information, and will also announce partnerships with wearable device makers at its I/O conference, Forbes understands. One source with knowledge of Google’s plans said Google Fit would allow a wearable device that measures data like steps or heart rate to interface with Google’s cloud-based services, and become part of the Google Fit ecosystem. Google could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.”

Google Fit has been specially tailored for the upcoming Android wearables. Android wearables from the companies, including Motorola, is expected to come integrated with sensors tracking the user’s health. The data collected then will be analyzed to display the metrics such calories burned and distance traveled into one native app from the Google Fit service.

Google Fit is most likely to run on the Android Wear, an Android OS especially tailored for the Android Wearables, and is going to be open source. Google will introduce it to its large developer community for the further development right after the Google IO, which runs by the end of this July.

Although the service is yet to be announced, Google Fit can become a potential threat for Apple HealthKit and Samsung Tizen smart wearables. It is without any doubt that Android rules the world and so would the Google Fit in the market of wearables.
