Mountain View – Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced today that it is entering the same-day delivery market with a new product called “Google Shopping Express”. The service is available immediately in new metropolitan area of Manhattan. Google is working to bring the same-day delivery to areas near Manhattan such as Queens and Brooklyn. ‘Shopping Express’ itself has been in areas of West Los Angles like Inglewood, Marina Del Ray and Westwood since last year.
The “Shopping Express” will allow customers to shop from retailers such as Target, Staples, Whole Foods, and Walgreens. The service has not branched out to the local small business locations yet in these select locations.
Jenna Owens, General Manager of Operations, Google Shopping Express said “With Google Shopping Express, there are no surcharges or mark
-ups, products cost exactly what they would in-store. You can also take advantage of in-store discounts and accrue loyalty points by providing your store rewards card information.”
This means that people who enjoy using their rewards cards to gain points or discounts can still gain credit without actually having to be at the register themselves. This also means ‘Google Express’ customer can purchase items at the same price as customers in store.
Google is also offering a $10 off on the first purchase made and free delivery for the first six months. On the website itself, Google has different departments listed like ‘Grocery’ and ‘Office Supplies’ to make shopping easier. The products purchased can be anything from cat food to toilet paper.
There is also an app available to download for iOS and Android devices. The app called ‘Google Shopping Express’ breaks it down first by location of where a product needs to be delivered and then zip code of where the products can be delivered. The app itself is free and uses Google’s Wallet to make purchases. You can sign up to try the new service here.
