A popular Apple-focused analyst Ming-chi Kuo forecasted that the next iOS slate refresh to happen in the third quarter of 2014 and the third iPad Mini version, popularly is being speculated with the name of Apple iPad Mini 3. This is the only rumor on the iPad mini 3 release date at the moment and it seems reasonable enough. Apple generally likes autumn launch events with devices going on sale shortly afterwards giving consumers the chance to make purchases in the run up to Christmas.
That places the iPad mini 3 launch between July and September. Kuo also said that Apple will reveal a new iPad Air, two sizes of iWatch, a 4.7in iPhone 6, a new Apple TV, a 12in MacBook and an updated MacBook Pro line-up.
The price of Apple iPad Mini 3 is hard to predict as the price of the iPad mini 2 turned out more than the original speculated price, which was mainly due to the Retina quality screen upgrade. Unless Apple does something major to the iPad mini 3, it is expected to be priced at $400 for the basic iPad Mini 3 and $500 for the iPad Air 2.
Outward, there is not much to expect from the already gorgeous looking iPads, Kuo said, adding that most of the tablet upgrades are confined within. If anything, it will be the Mini 3 that could get a bit of a revision as the analyst noted that the bulkier Mini 2 proved unattractive for many iPad fans. So the same beautiful and solid design seen in 2013 will be pretty carried over in the 2014 builds, said the KGI expert.
Apple iPad mini 3 is rumored to come with a Touch ID – the fingerprint scanning home button which Apple introduced with the iPhone 5s but didn’t make its way onto any iPads. This is backed up by Kuo who also said that the iPad mini 3 will gain an 8Mp iSight camera. Apple could make the device’s design slimmer and lighter, moving it into the ‘Air’ status, as it will have to differentiate the new model in other ways to tempt users to upgrade. However, the iPad mini tablets are already small, light and easy to use with one hand.
As far as the Display is concerned not many changes are expected. Apple is supposed to stick with the same 7.9in display with a 2048×1536 resolution for Apple iPad Mini 3 that the iPad mini 2 is based on. At the moment it seems like the iPad mini 3 will only bring small changes and upgrades but only the actual launch will be able to put an end to the speculations.
