Did you get your flu shot this year? If not, better have one because the coming days are going to see a steep rise in the incidence of flu. Well it is nothing new under the sun since the days after the festive months witnesses a steep rise in the flu cases.
The number of States which are reporting widespread flu cases has almost doubled since last week. According to CDC Flu updates, 25 states are now reeling under the onslaught of the flu epidemic. The word “Widespread” is an ambiguous term since the situation is serious and the Flu epidemic has encompassed more than 50% of the geographic regions of the affected states. The Southeastern States are facing the brunt of the flu epidemic.
What has puzzled the Medical and Health officials is that the Flu cases has started appearing just after Christmas while normally the flu epidemic peaks during the months of January and February.
The flu strain this year has been labeled as the H1N1 and was widely known as swine flu during the 2009 flu epidemic. The H1N1 flu strain has become so common that it is now included in the 2014 vaccination schedule according to a release from CDC.
Doctors have advised that the best way to fight the epidemic is to go for vaccination. Secondary measures includes keeping hands clean and washing your hands as much as possible
