A new patent application was published by Samsung (SSNLF), which if implemented, will change the way people use smartwatches. According to the patent, the new smartwatch concept will let you perform tasks just by waving your hands in front of a built-in camera. For example, you could send a content to a Smart TV just by flicking your finger.

Touchscreen on a smartwatch is really small and limited, hence this new innovation will open a lot of new ways to use a smartwatch. The concept smartwatch features a circular touchscreen  display, along with a rotating ring around the edge, which will allow to perform tasks like scrolling through web pages or options.

Yesterday, we reported that Samsung is probably working on a smartwatch which could be known as the Samsung Gear Solo. It will be a smartwatch with a SIM slot, which means you will be able to make calls with it as well. But the questions arises, can a smartwatch do more than just an accessory to a smartphone? The answer is no because a smartphone can always do a lot more than a smartwatch, even if the smartwatch has gesture technology, it will still lack a lot that a smartphone can do.

Samsung started their smartwatch journey with Samsung Galaxy Gear; it was launched back in 2013 and critics welcomed it with good words e.g. Engadget called it a good start. Samsung recently launched a new set of smartwatches; Samsung Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and Gear Fit. The major difference between the Galaxy and Gear 2 is that the flagship comes with Samsung’s very own Tizen OS, and also it dropped the famous ‘Galaxy’ branding as well. And the difference between Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo is that the Gear 2 offers a camera, while the Gear 2 Neo doesn’t which makes it affordable.

We don’t know what Samsung’s upcoming smartwatches will offer, but atleast we have an idea. The gesture control will make it much more easy to use, because you can’t do a lot on a tiny screen. Samsung has smartwatch competition with companies like Sony and Pebble, and also words are on the street that Apple is also working on a smartwatch, probably the ‘iWatch’. Apple CEO Tim Cook said last month that the company is looking to launch some new products, and also working on expanding into new product categories. If Apple also steps into the smartwatch game, the competition will really heat up because we all are familiar with Apple’s and Samsung’s rivalry.
