Google will give more preferences to sites that offer HTTPS encryption. google said that it would show search results on top of those sites on top that are more secure that is that have HTTPS in their URL.
Google said this in one of its posts that the company is going to make a shift in which it will start showing search results of those sites that offer HTTPS type encryption in their servers. Google wants that all the sites use transport layer security (TLS) protocol. To do so Google will display search results of those sites on top that are using this type of security protocol than their competitors that don’t, google also wants that site use HTTPS protocol not only on their login page, but the full of their site. That is why facebook is also getting solemn about getting its site encrypted.
on Wednesday, Google Webmaster trends analyst Gary Illyes and Zineb Ait Bahajji said that Google was among the first sites to offer end-to-end HTTPS protection by default across virtually all of its properties. It has also offered a variety of tools to help sites detect and recover from security breaches.
a site that has HTTPS in its URL like, states that the site uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL). this SSL indicates that the site has an encrypted format communication between the web browser and the web site. Therefore, their are very fewer chances of your data getting hacked. Security is always a solemn concern for the web surfing, and a site that uses SSL is always considered safer than those that don’t. That’s why all the financial sites or the sites that use password or those that have any other types of private information are required to use SSL.
“For now, it’s only a very lightweight signal — affecting fewer than 1 percent of global queries, and carrying less weight than other signals such as high-quality content — while we give webmaster’s time to switch to HTTPS,” said google. “But over time, we may decide to strengthen it because we’d like to encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web.”
