Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is now going to open a flagship store in New York Fifth Avenue. The Redmond giant will now open a store next to the iconic Apple Inc store that holds a glass cube in front of it. The company said that they had signed a lease to open a store in the Fifth avenue and it will only be few blocks away from the Cupertino giant’s store.
“This is a goal we’ve had since day one — we were only waiting for the right location,” said David Porter, Microsoft’s corporate vice president for worldwide retail stores, writing in a company blog post. “And now we have it. Our Fifth Avenue location will be much more than just a Microsoft Store. In addition to retail, there will be experiential space for Microsoft as a company to further engage with our customers and partners in new and innovative ways.”
It is not the first store of the company in US. Instead, Microsoft has many stores in the country as well as around the world. It first started a store in October 2009, since then the company has expanded itself to 104 physical stores in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico.
The location Microsoft choose to open a store is certainly costly, but makes a statement. Microsoft also said that, “Today, I am pleased to confirm we have signed a lease to open a flagship store at 677 Fifth Avenue in New York City. As our first flagship store, it will serve as the centerpiece of our Microsoft Stores experience. This is a goal we’ve had since day one – we were only waiting for the right location”, they added, “This is an important milestone for Microsoft overall, our Stores team and millions of our current customers, as well as the millions to come. We could not be more excited to join one of the most visited streets in America.”
