After the rumors and announcement of Apple (NASDAQ: APPL) iPhone 6, its time to divert our attention to the second-most important iDevice, which is iPad. According to Bloomberg reports, iOS users should expect two new models as production of the new iPad has begun, first a full-size 9.7 inch screen tablet and another iPad mini with a 7.9 inch display. According to the sources, these iDevices will hit the stores by the end of the quarter or early in the next quarter.
Features known till yet:
- Antireflection Coating: According to Bloomberg’s report, the new iPad will have an anti-glare screen that is the new iPad’s screen won’t reflect in sunshine like the present iPad’s lustrous display. This device will be more lounge and waterproof and is also designed for easier reading.
- Sleek Handset, with Touch ID: ASCII Plus, a Japanese website on last month posted some fairly convincing news of the next generation iPad Air. Images revealed that the new “iPad Air 2” is even thinner as compared to the current iPad and could share the fingerprint-sensing home button feature of iPhone 5S.
- Same resolution: As reported by Phone Arena, the second generation iPad Air will have the same resolution (2,048 x 1,536) and will have a 9.7 inches screen diagonally.
Weak Spot:
Apple is hoping to raise iPad sales after they slouched 9 percent in the last quarter. The iPhone developer reported sales of $37.4 billion while they were falling short of their expectations for about $38 billion, and the same was with iPads also. The Cupertino-based company compared their previous quarter iPad sale of 16.3 million with the 13.2 million iPads sold last year.
“The one weak spot for Apple has been the tablet market,” stated an analyst with RBC Capital Markets, Amit Daryanani. “A refresh could stabilize the iPad’s revenue and profitability contribution to the company,” he said.
