French prosecutors have started preliminary investigation into allegations if raping a Canadian woman by two Paris police officers at the city’s Police Headquarters.
According to a statement released by the French interior ministry two French Police officers are under investigation and a third who is considered a witness for raping a Canadian woman. Both the police officers who have not been named have been suspended pending the results of the investigation.
According to French media the 34 year old Canadian Women got friendly with the Police officers who were not on duty at an Irish Pub situated close to the police headquarters on Tuesday. She later accompanied the police officers to their workplace where she alleged that she was raped.
The Canadian women left the police headquarters in a distraught state and told another police officer that she was raped. Initially four police officers were detained following the accusation. While two police officers were released without any chargers, the other two officers were charged and have been since released on bail.
The Canadian woman has been examined medically and DNA samples have been taken. Meanwhile the lawyer for one of the police officers, Sebastien Schapira, has said that his client has not done anything wrong other than having consensual sex with the woman.
Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs wouldn’t confirm if the woman had left the country because of privacy reasons.
Meanwhile France’s Interior Minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, said in Sunday’s statement the two officers under investigation will face dire consequences for their actions if proved true and a departmental enquiry is already under process.
